Face Von Jay: Make up Artist
Kat Barker: Model and all round gorgeous girl
Policeman: as himself
I ventured up to Leeds with a promise of a fun and unusual photo shoot, unlimited picking of photographer Christian Gallagher’s brain on studio lighting, and the artistic creations of Face Von Jay on the pretty face of Kat Barker.
Beaten and Bruised Model Shoot was brought to you by the weird imaginings of Face Von Jay and hosted by the delectable Lorna Jasper, coordinator of mad ideas.
I was able to spend a fantastic afternoon learning everything I possibly could about studio lights from Christian, using the equipment at the Studio Upstairs and his face for practice, in an attempt to get ready for the shoot the following day.
Face Von Jay worked her magic and transformed our beautiful model Kat into a messed up, battered junkie; all in the name of art, darling.
The look was so convincing, a policeman stopped us in our tracks during the shoot, ready to thrown us in the slammer, that is, until Face Von Jay was able to soothe the frazzled copper with her blusher brush and lipstick. Once reassured that Kat’s injuries were, in fact make up, he was only too happy to participate in the shoot as well.
A little studio time to practice what I had learnt rounded off a very fun and successful day – thanks not only to the great stylings of Face Von Jay, the extraordinary patience and willingness of Kat – can you just lie in the gutter there for me, love? – Barker, Lorna for the use of shop and studio and getting us all together, and finally to Christian for his willingness to share his vast knowledge, all for the price of a half.
Here are some of the results…
Looking forward to our next project – though I am not sure if Kat is…
